I remember Pool had in the past the very "nice" functionality of not letting you know who you were bidding against, and worst, not even knowing if you were bidding against someonelese.
Today I domain I backordered was catched and the bid history shows :

Domain Name Current Price My Bids # of Bids Close Date (GMT)
mydomain.com $60.00 $60.00 1 2005-07-19 15:30:00

When I click on the "1" for # of bids it shows :

Bidder Bid Amount Bid Date
You $60.00 2005-07-16 18:11:14

Does it mean, that's only me bidding on this domain ? If so, why they don't gave me the domain immediatly ?

I think Mydomain.com was an example domain. You may want to contact him to see what the real name was.

Mydomain.com is a developed site, and did not just drop.

if you were the only one who had placed a backorder on the domain then you would of won the domain and there wouldn't be an auction either.

they do not reveal how many people have entered an auction.. in your case, there is definitely somebody else. maybe just you and one more guy.. maybe you and 20 others, go figure.

Oh, really ? thanks for clarifying.
After I post I remembered that Pool, in fact, was always sending to a private auction, eventhough there was only one bidder. I even asked that in private email support to them and they responded me they do so.
So, basically, the question remains, that was an old practice.
Do they still doing that ?

Here it goes :

Hi,

I have a question, I read the fact and it is not there.

If for a given domain name is there only one backorder, does it go to
the sealed auction then challenger auction process anyway ?

Regards,

They responded me :

Hello;

Thank you for using Pool.com.

Yes: ALL domains go through Pool.com's Two Phase Auction Process regardless of the amount of backorders - our system does not differentiate between one backorder and multiple backorders for an acquired domain.

Regards,
Melanie

This was on November, last year, when they already had the two phases horrible thing. So, I don't know if this "feature" of starting a private auction with just one bidder, remainded from those days.

their old system was thrown out.. new system is simple;

if your the only one with the backorder the domain is all yours

if there is more then one person placing an order on a domain the domain goes through a 3 day auction

just because your the current high bidder right now doesn't mean that you will win.. you can win, if the other person/s do not bid... but we won't know for sure until the end.

most auctions usually get bid up within the last 5-10 min's, thats just the way it is.

They should let you know how many people are in the auction at auction start , seems like it would only make business sense on their part to get the most from an auction, if bidders are just going in with 10 minutes to go then they are not maximizing the auction , mystery is not good.
