Yesterday, I just registered my very first domain name for a $1.17. I figured that if I sell this one for $10, I've just 10x'd my very first investment into domaining.

To my surprise, after checking estibot, the domain apraised at $3,300 and sedo price suggestion was $500.

Today, I just received an e-mail:
Hello,
We buy and sell domains and web prjects. What is your price for the
domain?
If you have other domains for sale feel free to send your list.
Looking forward to do business with you.

I'm not quite sure what to do with this as I'm brand new.

Any suggestions for a response?

If they ask you to apraise the domain with some company of their choice then just ignore it. It's a scam.

well make sure its not a scam , just make them a offer like $200-$250 if they legit they will take the offer or make counter or something like that if they are scammer they will ask you to buy a appraisal from various companies, they even try to fool you by adding sedo and other famous websites in the list of companies.

The domain is BraveLittle.com

Here is his response when I let him know it was $1000 dollars:

1000. Ok
Do you sell domain with a web site or just the name?
Domain without content is ok with me. Web site is not necessary.
Have you had your domain names evaluated in the past? I mean domain
appraisals. Without valuation we cannot be sure in the sale price. It's very
important for me in terms of reselling too. But we must engage a valuation
company with REAL manual service. So I will only accept valuations from
independent sources I and my partners trust.
To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal
companies.
Please check this blog with suggestions from other sellers and buyers:
http://www.domainexplorer.org/Archive-09-2009/91462735.htm
If, for example, the valuation comes higher you can adjust your asking price
accordingly. It will be fair. I also hope you can give me 12% - 15%
discount.
After you send me the valuation via email (usually it takes 1-2 days to
obtain it) we'll continue our negotiations.
What is your preferred payment method: Escrow.com, International wire
transfer, PayPal.com or something else?
Hope we can come to an agreement fast.
Looking forward to your reply.

Apparently there are enough other idiots to keep him going. :)

I think it is someone else who just scans for newly registered domains - if they see a newly registered domain and very few registered to the same person they can assume they are a new person which usually means easy pickings.

sure, up till today I would assume it.

BraveLittle.com
11 letters, try "processing" that in 24 hours (starting at for example 6 letters aaaaaa till xxxxxxxxxx in 24 hours + whois impossible I think

I read something about zonefiles from icann, can someone tell me what it is / how it works?

the long domain + the speed he got an " offer" makes it more fishy as it already is.

@ geck0killer, how many hours between registration + "offer" email ?

i received the same email two months ago, regarding one of my domains. then, when i wrote back, the person asked for appraisal, such and such. I wrote back that I didn't want appraisal at his company. Then, the guy never responded back. I came across another site, a domain forum site, and one of the members reported he received the same email. It could be a scam, as someone here mentioned, but I can't say for sure. Whatever you do, just becareful.
