When you are considering registering a domain or portfolio of domains do you consider the possible 'branding' of the domains or portolio?

At first this may seem like an irrelevent question, but a lot of domains are registered due to their Overture scores, Google numbers, PPC value, etc.. So therefore the number of domains actually registered either fully or mainly due to their 'branding' possibilities is actually quite small as a percentage of the overall number registered.

Also, to those that register a 'brandable' name do you expect to keep it longer before selling it than you would a 'generic' word/s domain?

And just for the record have you found the number of 'brandable' domains has increased with time generally as a portion of your overall domain portfolio?

When I reg 'brandable' names it's usually for my own purpose.
Brandable domains are more difficult to sell, yet you can strike it big provided you need to find the right end user...
The good LLLL .com domains tend to sell for at least low $$$$ these days, IMO it's because 1. they are short 2. branding potential !

I wish I knew how to value brandable domains, it's really hard when there is so little talked about it, with other domainers in these forum and else where. But I really like brandable domains, but just how does one value them as I got a few of them my self.

sure I think it's worth having a few brandable type .com domains. Made up words or phrases that could become a company name or website. Best if it's short, easy to remember and spell, and sounds like what the name could be used for. A very good example would be 'gamez/com', or other existing sites like ning/com, revver/com, flickr/com. I wouldn't base a whole portfolio on doing this but once in a while I'll brainstorm and try to reg a few good ones. And you could end up holding on to them longer than a generic for sure.
