I just developed a website, www.lifeinsurancebroker.co I intend on monetizing the site through lead generation and adsense. With that said my question is two-fold

1) Has anyone succesfully monetized/driven traffic to a .co name?
2) Would I be better of listing this name on flippa then picking up pennies in front of a bull dozer through adsense revenue?

Thanks for your input.

Also as a caveat the current site up is a work in process, I have just begun building out content.

The battle I have keeping .com's #1 alone prevents me from going near .co

That said, its not impossible assuming other tlds are not already in the space

In answer to your questions:

1.) I've developed a .co on a couple of occasions but didn't stick around long enough to find out. No signs of traffic in the 1st three months.

2.) I'd look to sell, could save you a lot of time

I'd also be keen to hear of other .co success stories, if the forum has any.

Thanks for the reply fabbstar. The fact that google views .co in the same light for SEO ranking is what pushed me over the edge on this one. I am going to build content and see where I can rank. The CPC on "Life Insurance Broker" is $10+ if I can get trickles of traffic per day, it may be worth it once enough quality content and links have been built.

I can not recall what I was searching on google, but I noticed numerous .co domains appearing in the results on the first several pages.

Why? Because they were exact keyword domains of the term I was looking for.

Google seem to have completely removed the bonus of having an exact match domain, but yours is still brandable so a good name for a site. TBH to rank for this term you'll need to spend thousands on building links (either paying for links, or creating amazing content that is naturally linked to).

I believe a .co can certainly be ranked - its all going to depend on the site. If you have great content, a great purpose, and ease of user for your users the site can certainly get traffic. As with all new sites it will be an uphill battle but its certainly doable.

I never in my wild imagination thought that Spain (.info) would rank, but it did. If it can, any g/cc/TLD can. However, I believe there was a stiff price to pay for it and if the dot com owner comes along wanting to compete, it will be knocked down unless they can provide better content how Google perceives it.
