Yesterday I had a snap, pool, godaddy, namewinner and firstname and I lost a domain to buydomains.

The name had only a 8.75 bid at namewinner so I thought I was the only one wanting it. Wrong!

Is this a new method by buydomains? No bids anywhere, just use his registars...

I think that buydomains.com had improved their snap ability that some nice domains had gone to buydomains.com recently, even pool.com was unable to grab them successfully.:-(

It may be that Buydomains has found it not cost effective to bid anymore. Is it good or bad? I don't know.

Well I think that 8.75 bid took namewinner out.
These $8.75 bids will never get a domain buydomains is after.

Don't read too much into it. Lots of names drop every day, it is conceivable that BD might get lucky every now and then. If the bid was 8.75 at NW it probably wasn't even on their radar and they just happened to get it.

You are correct that a $8.75 bids will not beat BD.

It has happened to me a lot.

I assume that NW prioritizes the names they are trying to
catch that day. And, If I was them, I would rank them by the
financial return per name. And, the $ 8.75 is at the bottom of
the barrel. since, they have to pay Verisign $ 6.00 plus their time, and potential credit risk that they might get stuck with
the name. And, all of that takes effort and manpower.

So, that is why GoDaddy usually beats NW on $ 8.75 names.

The reality is BD are chasing hundreds of $8.75 names every day. They get a few, but I'm sure they miss a lot too..

The priority vs dollars thing at NW may be true, but I have also lost many names to BD that HAD good $$$ on them at NW!

I think maybe BD is actually an evil cult with dark powers over domain drops!

funny you mentioned godaddy. I really love their service and support, but when it comes to backordering... that is another story.
I have about 8 backorders running for the last 6 months, and not 1 made it!!!
just today I got the great 'pending capture' notice saying they are about to get a domain. Great eh?
WRONG. I just checked Godaddy's own whois directory and the domain is gone, in fact it was gone a few hours before they sent out the email to me...
(it was an ORG if that matters).
So, I am sticking with NW and their dreaded no contact thingy and pool.

Yes, they don't accept .orgs n their system.

They can only monitor .orgs.

Maybe this just indicates that even buydomains doesn't waste their time with namewinner. I do find the list on their front page handy but that's about it. Don't excpect to get any decent name for $8.75...

Well I get a lot of $8.75 names that have no snap, pool, godaddy etc.
This was the first time I lost one that had all the above...
Maybe only me and BD show value in this name.
Should I be happy I lost the name or glad I have a good eye?
Well I am not happy!
