Looks like eNOM has decided to take a loss on .CA registrations!!

But hats off to the Canadians.. here's what eNOM has to say:

Canadians are the most active population of people online worldwide.* Like people all over the world, Canadians are searching for goods, services, and products that support their economy and interests.

As someone in Canada looking to build or expand upon your website, don’t you want other Canadians to know you are on their team? The potential traffic a distinctly Canadian online presence brings is powerful, and can turn your website into a superstar.

Broadcast a pro-Canada message with a .ca domain for your website. The official domain extension of Canada, .ca will show Canadians that your site is worth their time.

Act quickly and you can get your .ca domain name for up to 77% off **! As low as $8.99 for your first year!

I got the email as well...Kudos to them but I really try and keep my .ca's with just a few Canadian registrars. Has anybody used Enom for .ca's?
GoDaddy is a real adventure when you buy a .ca name from someone else and it is reg'd with them. They can't seem to make the change of registrant at first.
They do the change of registrar ....and then 2 months later you request the change of RANT. It is confusing.
I have sold some that are at GD and have warned the buyers that there is a good chance the change of registrant hasn't happened....and that turned out to be the case.

Long story short...make sure Enom knows how to deal with .CA

Cheers

CIRA occasionally gives us promotions for certain months - they aren't necessarily actually taking a loss. And yes, bear in mind that some registrars have no idea what they are doing with .ca domains.

In terms of price war - you may also want to put pressure on CIRA to lower prices to registrars. As it stands for example - with our own existing prices, we are only making a few pennies per domain after all the yearly fees, CC fees, etc.

It used to be part of the charter for CIRA to lower prices as they paid off the debt to UBC, but after they realized they are basically unaccountable for taking care of their 'friends and family' they decided they know better what to do with the money and the wholesale price has stayed at $8.50 ever since.

And by the way, you are making a mistake to trust enom with your domains.
