I prebooked a domain with two registrars (thank God they refund your money if they don't get your domain) - and ended up regging the domain by hand 30 minutes after the drop was over.

Things that make you go ....Hmmm.

How on earth could this happen? And you said TWO registrars?

Yes, the domain was Uproar.ca. I regged it by hand through a reseller account at about 7pm. I had prebooked it at two regsitrars. I won't mention which two because both registrars managed to get me 10 other domains in total and are both puzzled how this could happen. It must have been a CIRA glitch.

Sport ... it was too funny ... Between 1 PM CST and 6PM CST I was able on my own, to get 2 of 10 names that I had with a drop chaser, (they got none for me) service, and 6 of 10 names that I had pre-registered (pre-paid) with a registrar, I was able to register by hand with the same registrar!

... only in Canada!

Shaun: same thing happened to me. I registered 4 out of the 9 names I was going for by hand. I don't think DropWizard got me any of the others I was chasing. :(

Nope we got slammed. I think our registrar F**ked up. Every return I've had was "No"

And you shouldn't have been able to get them by hand during the drop. It's supposed to be closed to the public.

Something's screwed.

In any case I'm negotiating with a new registrar to take over the .ca biz for us. Our present one has taken us from a 50% success rate down to 0%

My apologies to any of the clients involved.

Another example:

I would bet opensource.ca must be pre-booked; but it was actually registered AFTER the rush, probably around 7 p.m. (not by me though).

Well that's interesting cause I tried to check our list last night and all I got was a DB down for maintenance. I was still getting it this morning.

gmartfin ... I started registering names by hand at about 11:40 AM CST yesterday ... and really didn't have any real outages .... some names did show as unavailable ... but I could register them later.

As I've said ealier .. I was registering names by hand WITH the registrar I had prepaid/prebooked the same names with .... was a strange day. Did okay though ....

Now that you mention it I remember last year I did the same thing. You can register by hand in the big yearly drop. It's just the day to day ones you can't.

Glad you made out OK Shaun
