I have been taking my domain buying a little more seriously of late, and I am holding a lot of the companies I purchase from a bit more scrutiny. Over the past year, if I have been almost shocked by some domain companies that either give little or no customer support.
Some of the companies I list here have decent products, the problem is however...they aren't. Please don't think I'm the contentious type. I'm not, I just believe when you pay good money for a product or service, you should be treated well. Is that too much to ask? Most of the services I use are fine...but there are a few that make my short list.
Moniker
Possibly the rudest and most unresponsive and unprofessional support of all. Please be sure MAKE CERTAIN your domains are not set to auto renew. I thought I made certain and ended up being charged for dozens of domains I didn't want. Customer support hung up on me, and has ignored all my requests for support. Funny, I never should have tipped them off to the bug in their system that would have allowed people to register domains for free. If that's their gratitude...I will probably never use their services again.
Rebrand Software
Again, not responding to a customer who bought your software and needs tech support. Not wise. Nice product...no support.
Domaincentral
I thought they would be good for bulk registration. At $5 per domain, I thought they were a steal. Their backend software is pretty handy. But my first week with them has been terrible. The only way to contact customer support is by email or chat. Let me tell you, these guys can dance around any question you give them. (Think of a teenage Sarah Palin). Anywho. I also tried registering 2 specific domains with them, they charged my card, but failed to acquire the domains. They charged me for them anyway. I emailed support, but no response. It also takes them a lo-ong time to register "provisioning" a domain for you, then once it's registered, they park their page on it....sigh.
PPCTemplate.net
A decent product, but their templates come chock full of THEIR affiliate codes and you have to go digging for them, and hope you get them all. After they get your money, you get no support.
Anyone else have similar experiences?
Again, it's not dwelling on the negative...it's about helping each other avoid the pitfalls of domaining. We have to pick through a lot of rocks to get to those gems. I'll be posting my favorite services in the near future.
