The ICANN Press Release
15 September - Marina del Rey, California -
The ICANN Board of Directors today approved the contractual arrangement with Fundació puntCAT for the introduction of a new .CAT, a sponsored top level domain (sTLD), for the Catalan language community. The Board noted the written communications it had received from the governments of Spain and Andorra not objecting to the .CAT application.

The Board also considered an agreement for the proposed .XXX sTLD. It expressed some concerns in relation to draft compliance and process terms. The Board directed ICANN staff to negotiate additional contractual provisions requiring development and implementation of policies consistent with ICM Registry's application. The Board will consider the outcome of these negotiations at some future date.

The board dealt with an additional administrative matter, and continued other matters on its agenda until its next board meeting.

As far as .xxx goes, ICANN might just cave in to Bush (idgit). I think these "concerns in relation to draft compliance and process terms" is just a baloney excuse and ICANN's way of thowing up their usual smoke screen. These guys are brain dead. Anyone know where (around the globe) they plan on heading next to spend that .25 per domain tax they levied on us? Pure taxation without representation. Just amazes me. We need a revolution.

The more crappy the TLDs ICANN approves, the more valuable many of the legacy TLDs become - in particular .COM, .NET, .ORG along with some ccTLDs too, such as .DE and .CO.UK

Same thing has happened with toll-free prefixes here in North America ... first 800, then 888, then 877, then 866, soon 855 (and there are some obscure special purpose / localized others) ...

Thus now most folks have no idea what all the various toll-free prefixes there are - most only know 800 and 888 are for sure ... the more toll-free prefixes added, the stronger 800 and 888 become in regards to recognition ... same is happening with .COM, .NET, .ORG and some other select TLDs/ccTLDs.

.CAT ? ... ICANN has lost it completely ... .CAT, .XXX, .AERO, etc all belong in the .COOP :clown:

Why doesnt ICANN just add a form on their site for everyone to create their own extention instantly, and then add that to their database, that would be fun, right? (sarcasm). :/

It's well said :)
That's why I have a 800 toll-free number. To me 800 is the dot-com of phone numbers while 888, 877 etc are the .net .org .biz :cheeky:

I was about to register dumpicann.com but already found this

does ICANN not know where to stop. Enough with the extensions.

If it were up to me, I'd keep com, net, org, info, biz, name, I'd add .euro, .asia, .noam, .soam, .afri, .anta

Then take all the ccTLD, and merge them under a continent that they belong, anything that conflicts should be taken out by ICANN, that solves all problems.

Now how long before ICANN adds .DOG to complement .CAT

Why stop there ICANN ... here are some other great TLDs to consider:

.WAR ... ie. gulf.war, vietnam.war, network.war, nuclear.war

.BEER ... ie. budweiser.beer, cold.beer, byo.beer, free.beer

.NEWS ... ie. all.news, fox.news, abc.news, buy.news

.CARS ... ie. new.cars, used.cars, quality.cars, ford.cars

.FREE ... ie. all.free, shop.free, not.free, books.free

.MSGS ... ie. dnforum.msgs, google.msgs, search.msgs, deleted.msgs

.WATER ... ie. distilled.water, bottled.water, spring.water, aquafila.water

.DIET ... ie. slimfast.diet, weightwatchers.diet, healthy.diet

.ADS ... ie. car.ads, gator.ads, stop.ads, free.ads, shop.ads

.DOM ... ie. domain.dom, com.dom, register.dom

.UDRP ... ie. appended to end of disputed domains - example.com.udrp

.TRASH ... ie. talk.trash, jakeshauling.trash, free.trash, icann.trash LOL!
