I have recently been viewing a satellite transmitted out of Canada due to locations of trees on my property. Having a satellite dish placed in the yard between numerous trees leaves only certain satellites with good reception. Anyway, the thing that really got my attention was not the numerous hockey games or the fact that there are so many French language stations, but the fact that 90% of all websites mentioned end in .ca. And I mean every major company that there is has the .ca in use in Canada.
Being a domainer for so many years, I always take notice of web addresses. Always. Living in the US, I am bombarded with .com. This is how it has been. This is how it will be.... for a while. I believe that it is inevitable that .us will be a prominent player in the US namespace. Seeing the exposure of .ca in Canada has me even more convinced of this.
Other countries outside of the US have embraced their country codes. Doing business within your own country, this only makes sense. I am heavily invested in .us, so perhaps I am overly optimistic. My point is, those that dismiss ccTLD's are missing the point... and the boat.

The problem is .ca has been embraced by government and most local businesses in Canada while the US still seems to go for .com first.

For .us to succeed, someone needs to embrace it besides domainers.

The US has too many TLDs besides its own: .gov .mil .edu (overwhelming American). So America does not unequivocally identify with .us. Add to that the fact that .us was released late (2002). Many domainers - in particular US domainers - don't realize how powerful and established ccTLDs are outside the US.
