.CX to stand for Customer eXperience, but is most likely targeted to Chinese domain investors.

CentralNic is going to relaunch Christmas Island’s country code top level domain, .CX, as an acronym for Costumer eXperience.

While CX is an acronym for Customer Experience, and CX is really a thing in this respect, I don’t see it lending itself to an entire top level domain.

It seems that CentralNic’s real target is the Chinese market.

In its press release about the relaunch, it notes that .CX is a well-known abbreviation for “Cathay,” a historical name for China. It also notes that 95% of five number domains are available in .cx and domains will be priced affordably. That’s a nod to the Chinese domain name investor community.

CentralNic did not announce pricing, but .CX domains were previously quite expensive. CoCCA Registry Services set the price at $75 per annual registration.
