Cheap G1 crossovers?

Where could I find cheap crossover cables?

We had a router upgrade and had to switch the crossover that went from SW1 to SW2 over to the router to SW1, the crossovers we had didn't work between SW1 and SW2 so I used by gigabit crossover adapter w/ a regular RJ-45 and it works.

Where could I get a cheap 3 foot replacement cable so I can get my adapter back?

Call someone from the local IT companies (network) and ask to see if they can spare you one. If you can wait for a couple of days then Ebay is cheap.

These types of cable you can easily find from the stores.
Alternately, you can put the regular cable on the floor and cross over it!

John, maybe you can help.

We tried to make a crossover but none of the layouts we found though Google worked (for some reason). Any suggestions on where to find the pin layouts for it?

Right now I have a Gigabyte crossover adapter plugged into a regular RJ-45.

I think we did that but the other tech might have messed up with it. Maybe I'll give that another try. Just cut one of the RJ-45s we alreayd have.

Most of the routers would come with 2 cables: 1 straight and 1 cross-over.
Take a look at the junk box or your closet.

That still needs to be cleaned out since I came on board.

I have the cable made, too bad I don't have any way to test it, my cable tester is really bad (work provided). Oh well, I guess I'll find out at 6am tomorrow morning in the store it needs to go to.

You can test the 1969 way:

Use the volt meter and switch to continuity test and check on both ends according to the schematic.

Don't tell me you don't have a volt meter or it is not working!

Good idea, but the leads on my multimeter are too big.

I have a multimeter I bought months ago for this position.

I have a cable tester but it doesn't test crossovers

Edit: My team lead is laughing at me now. I told her the 14' cat-5 cable I had is now a nice 5' crossover cable.

Wrap the leads with small paper clips.

Be creative.

Only one paper clip in my office and I'm sure you know what that's for. I'll see if I can find others around here.
