I just renewed a few of mines in godaddy.
Don't remember which coupon code I used (I tried a few of them), but I paid $7.15 per domain.

$7 would be a really good price. Verisign charges $6.42 + $0.22 Icann fee the actual cost for a .com should amount to 6.64...
For .net Verisign charges $3.85.
After transaction costs and operating expenses GD needs to make a profit after all. Find a coupon using google or ask your account manager if you have one.

I joined the discount domain club at GD. you receive lots of extras like premium domain parking, etc Have a look.

Make sure you find some discount coupons(dealtaker) prior to buying will save $15-20 bucks.
