I do a lot of appraisals, but I don't think I have asked for an appraisal in years, so here is your chance for some payback :)

ChessDirectory.com

1999 registration

I picked this up through GoDaddy offer/counteroffer for what I think was a fantastic price, but let's see what you guys say.
Just on the fence about whether I pay some money for some better development, or just do it myself like I normally do.

Registered in several other extensions like .org .net .info .co.uk

Really, I give hundreds of appraisals and can't get one? Maybe I should just let this one drop.

I'm going on strike :)

NOOOOO!!!! LOL

I think ChessDirectory is a great name. As for value, I think you will have to go right to the end-users on this one, or development. You could make a killer directory site linking all the online chess games and current chess news. I would say high $xx to low $xxx to a resller, but they would really have to be looking for this type of name.

I'm a master-level chessplayer (and have sold a few good chess domains in the $xxx to low $xxxx range), so let me think about this one ...

Just trying to picture how somebody would use this name. Pages of chess links are already easy to find. Maybe a directory of chess clubs?

Anyway, regarding value, I think kmp had the right reseller range; for an end user, maybe mid $xxx. Good luck with it.

I like it A LOT!

Great single keyword + directory = category killer!

Seems hard to monetize, but if you are passionate about chess and develop it as a directory (clubs, stores, teachers, links to infoproducts, links to relevant autions) plus blog/news, I am almost sure you would find a way to make some bucks.

You have to approach end users, not the kind of domain that is sold by itself. I like sedo BIN price (right about what I would ask for it if it was mine), but you might want to lower it or accept very-low-ball offers to initiate an auction, which could end with interesting results.

Letting it drop... you won't forgive yourself later. Sell it cheap at least!

Thanks everyone. I was just kidding about letting it drop, I bought it specifically to develop. Really just trying to decide how much I want to spend on developing it. I know directories are a bit "played out", but I have a few that do well as long as you add unique content and not just lists of links.
OK, I am ending the strike now :)

Here I was getting excited you were going on strike.

Jokes dude :)

Regarding the domain, I am not sure how much I like it on its own. If it's a directory for chess clubs, I would much prefer chessclubs.com etc as opposed to this idk.

Others are suggesting you have to find the right end user to get a good price for this domain, but who exactly would you be approaching to sell this? It's easier said then done.

Anyway, as you said above, you got it to develop, so do just that with it.
