The software, which manufacturers must install on all new PCs starting July 1, would allow the government to regularly update computers with an ever-changing list of banned Web sites.

The software will be provided free, paid for by the government, and according to the official Green Dam Web site, it has already been downloaded 3.2 million times.

first they wanted to make this software mandatory for all PCs, but now it only has to be shipped with the PCs, but some PC manufacturing companies already install it.

i don't endorse or condone censorship, but usually if you want to be able to make the most out of your country - the idea is to let the citizens explore different avenues. because if you don't allow them too, another country will let their citizens and before you know it - they'll be one step ahead. i don't quite understand how governments can be so idiotic, but then again, what do i know
