I'm interested in finding out whether it is better to try to get single dictionary words, even if they aren't as clear in their meaning, than it is to get two-generic-word combinations that are easy to understand.

Originally I thought that clarity was everything, but some of the single words I've seen around that aren't easy to fully understand seem to be valued more highly than two-word combinations that make immediate sense.

Or is this a grey area?

There are plenty of dictionary names left, that are not usable. Would you register unpainstakingly.com ?
Most valuable generic terms are long gone, at least in English.
The odds of an user sale are higher with a solid two-word combination that is actually usable.

Thanks for those responses. I've been feeling (and acting) that way myself.

However, I suppose if one could see a use for a particular name, no matter how unfamiliar, one might brand it with a website. I might even have a go at unpainstakingly.com myself, lol. A site about sloppy folk who still make millions? A site about how careless the modern world has become and the implications for its future safety? A comparison between old and new methods and technologies? :)
