If they are already at #6 worldwide then, yes,
.cn will surely become #1 in the years ahead... ;-)

You overlooked a truth that a lot of people in China prefer .coms.

No joke. There are well over a billion people in
China and, thanks to its new immigration policies,
and population growth, this number is set to go
even higher (a lot higher)....

At present, China has only a tiny fraction of its
citizens online and IDN has not yet been 'rolled
out' there!.. (and yet .cn is currently #6 worldwide).

Is it really fantasy to believe that when the 'sleeping
giant' awakes, its .cn TLD will eclipse .com?? (in terms
of number).

Yes, .com will always be great, and .cn will never
supplant its popularity in North America, but I am talking
about numbers here - the most popular TLD, in terms of
number, worldwide.

Too much faith in .cn? I don't think so. The Chinese
government will (rightly) be supporting .cn, in pref.
to .com, and we are already seeing much evidence
of that now...

I dont know Hindi, dont know Mandarin, so Indians/Chinese could be number 1 and 2, it would not change my life. :eyebrows:

Actually he is totally correct. If the implementation of DName goes ahead this year dot Com will take a huge lead in the IDN market to the point where only a small fraction of the dot com registry is conventional IDN. As dot com will be registered in Russian, Japanese, Arabic and Hindi, to mention just a few as well as Chinese, it is inevitable that the dot com registry will dominate, but it will have have changed out of all recognition to that understood by the "head in the sand" dot commers that preside here.

People have so many interesting and
diverse points of view to share! Oh, and
visiting this forum also helps my grammere
