As .co was originally created as a country domain code for Columbia, does that affect its global SEO?

Are there any formed websites being successful off their .co domain name?

Unlike other ccTLD's, Google allows Geo Targeting in Webmaster Tools which may help global ranking (they consider it a Generic ccTLD).

I don't know of any .co sites.

I have faith in some cctld's... here is an example I registered inflatable rental .pro just 3 days ago and I can already find it in google with over 20 million other competing websites.

Domain Name:INFLATABLERENTAL.PRO

inflatable rental pro1st Page in Google

inflatable rental professional 1st Page in Google

CharlotteChurch.CO is another one: first on Google, while the .com is nowhere to be found :)

It depends on incoming links and the way you optimize the site

Exactly. .CO and .com are treated by Google the same way. There are other factors that decide the ranking of a website.

O.co, but perhaps not the best example :D

Just saw a one page ad in a magazine for jetblack.co They are using the default .co logo (orange square with dogear)

.Co is good if you have a nice hack (E.co), or a short domain (3 chars including the extension like g.co is brilliant), or if it is country related (Colombian tourism) other than that there is no reason why to choose .co over generic tlds (.com, .net, .org or even .info).
