Does anyone know of a method to work out roughly how many type-ins a co.uk may be getting?

Well - you could always get a STATS script.
Most STATS scripts will show you if the hit was referred (ie. directed by search engine or a link) or DIRECT HIT (ie. type-in).

Sorry, I meant if you don't actually own the domain name.

Easy to do - type-in to Overture's Suggestion Tool the domain including the .co.uk.

For example london.co.uk gets 185 returns, indicating it gets a fair number of type-ins.

The link to the U.K. version of the Suggestion Took which is unique, can also be located at the bottom of the webpage link below.

Overture's U.K. site returns a greater number at 428, indicating even more type-ins.

Surely most people typing london.co.uk into a SE will be webmasters or people trying to find out about the parked site. The most valuable type-ins are from surfers looking for specific information and hoping it will be on the named site. You can only measure these by owning the domain and checking their exit path.

Why on earth would any webmaster want to find out about a parked site?

Let me assure you that if it was webmaster traffic, it would be worth many times more than just average joe looking for information on london. To me it would be a sign that people wanted london.co.uk badly & thereby increase resale value.
