I'm curious to what others believe the value of the two domain names below are worth individually. Please give me your unbiased opinion as to what a buyer (end user) should pay for each:

ActiveService.com

vs.

ActiveService.us

I'm just interested in some objective numbers, not why you think .us is worthless, and .com is king. Know what I mean???

Thanks.

.com - $19 to $299; depending on how it's developed.

.us - $9 to the owner of the .com; $0 to anyone else.

Ask yourself the following questions:
1) From the last 10 websites I visited , How many were dot com's and how many were .us?
2)From the last 10 websites advertisment/banners tv-ads magazine-ads etc etc I have seen lately ...How many were dot com and How many were .us?
I probably be scorned again but....
I get a zero in diplomacy but...

I registered activeservice.us to use for a private project I'm working on, and was wondering if I should consider paying to acquire activeservice.com, and if it might ever be feasible for me to do so. I don't have lots of $$$, and just wanted some numbers. I probably couldn't afford what they'd ask anyway, I'm just curious.

The owner of the .com is apparently in Hong Kong. I don't have a feel for what someone like that might be expecting. Just wanted a barometer reading on pricing, I don't need a lecture.

I am not going to "scorn" you, but merely point something out to you. Dot com has been around for at least 15 years. Dot US just rolled out. Given that fact your #1 and #2 answers are quite obvious.

Personally I am not into ccTLDs. Having said that obviously there are probably a few names in the dot US arsenal that would be nice to have, logical names. I would say Politics.us would be a good one to have. If you do a google search on live dot us sites you'll find it interesting there are actually quite a few up. Reason: For 17 years the states and cities of the US have used a 3rd level US domain (e.g www.state.ca.us) . So in a way, it's already "branded" with school teachers, local and state governments, tourism, etc, etc.

google search: site:us business (1,800,000 sites--includes a lot of the 3rd level US domains)

A good "City" name in the US would also be a good thing to have as another example. Could work with the cities in question on "sub domain options"...Example: www.tour.chicago.us

Dot us is certainly better then the current ccTLDs that are out there right now as far as it relates to me as a US citizen, so go figure!

I can appreciate that ya'll don't like .us TLD's, and I thank you for taking the time to respond. However, please understand, I am aware of the current thinking on the subject of the .us TLD.

If the .us part is throwing you for a loop, could you just appraise activeservice.com? That's the info I really want, anyway.

Thanks.

Can't stand to see a DNF'er get depressed... so I'll try to help.

ActiveService.com is registered by Ultimate Search. There is a prior thread on them if you have not seen it already. I can't find that thread right now, but I seem to recall that they ask $$$$ even for lousy names? Hope this is useful, even if not good news.

:depressed -> :embarrass -> :razz: -> :) ->:D ?

If this is a military oriented site, I like the .us extension.

Depending on how you are marketing the site, you might not have any problems with fallover traffic to the .com Radio commercials and TV ads would be worst, of course.

Appraisal for activeservice.com $500 - $1000

The site will target U.S. military personnel as part of it's primary focus. That's why I opted to go ahead with the .us TLD version.

I realized I couldn't count on being able to get the .com version. Especially if the owner holds it hostage at a high price. They'll have to find someone with deeper pockets than me to buy it then.

Feeling a little better now, thanks. :shy:

More appraisals appreciated. I think a larger concensus would give me a more realistic estimate of what activeservice.com might actually be worth.

Thanks again.

ActiveService.us

I just had a thought for you. Instead of using this site for current "Active Duty" members, you could gear the site towards aging US military servicemen and women, who were on "Active Service" in say 1945, 1951, 1965 or even 1990. Your target audience would be every man and women who has separated from the armed forces. Family members of deceased individuals who served could even use the site. This avenue will net you a bigger audience I believe.

I could see it now. I am veteran of the armed forces myself. I could go to your site, punch in the dates I served and whallah...I could find out if there are any of my comrades still out there. Kind of like the military version of a ClassMates.com.

I would certainly register. You probably would try to sell me high mark-up products that will help me in the "Gitty-up-and-go-department"---*cough* Viagra *cough. ClassMates sells quite a bit of advertising to afford the MSNBC placements. Can you imagine what a "ActiveService.us" site would do. Retirees/Separated individuals from the military aren't poor and they are the most profilic online users. Your logo could be "ActiveService.Us--in "flag" lettering; The Stars, red, white and blue striped, with Uncle Sam over it...Gosh do I love projects where the ideas are endless.

Good luck to you.

Separate thought:

One other thing that I believe is a POSITVE for dot US. Non Profit Organizations (501G's) that can't get their name in dot ORG might opt for a dot US. Something to think about if you are trying to market your names. Lots of charities could use the "keyword" traffic that some dot us names could give them. Hmmm...A site designed to re-direct traffic to charities, nonprofits...for a small fee of course...Ok, i better hit the rack, way too many elipses already.

I have other plans.

The site will ultimately be used to promote/sell/download a book/ebook I am writing that specifically targets a military, police and para-military audience. I won't go further with explanations, lest I give away too many secrets. You'll just have to wait for the book to come out.

Hello there, if you have great and targeted content, it doesn't friggen matter if you have geocities.com/activeservice/default.htm. The search engines will pick you up prompto with a little bit of effort.

Domain names are addresses that can mean a lot in terms of how people perceive you, not just friggen bored maniac depressive type-in sex.com tools.

activeservice.us holds a lot of patriotic meaning. As an address (and I do not refer to that overfried type-in .com yawn old school logic), activeservice.com sounds like a aimless follow me wannabe loser, IMO.

$1,000k at least.
