Companies still love descriptive .com domains

Big companies are still snapping up .com domain names for use and protection.

The release of new top level domain name options hasn’t slowed the Verisign juggernaut down. Companies still want to own descriptive and protective domains in .com, as well as .net.

Here’s one example that came across my radar today.

Pharmaceuticals company Allergan sells a number of eye products: Refresh, Optive and Restasis. Yesterday it registered at least 80 domain names related to dry eyes.

Clearly, it won’t use all of these domains. Maybe it will use only one. Or none. But it wants to keep them out of the hands of competitors.
