Depends on the age of the child. Border Collies / Shelties are definitely the smartest, but they don't always like kids. I say go to the pound and rescue some poor critter that really needs it. You will get unconditional love & happiness in return.

I concur. Saving a dog at the shelter is really the best thing to do.

Oh no, You see what you did by posting that pic? You and South now got me thinking of getting another dog from the shelter... Just what I need, another responsibility.

Think of the all love it will bring into your daughters and your family's life.

My kids are 8 and 11... We have a male miniature Schnauzer now, but they want another Dog, which I've resisted.

Congrats!.. Min Schnauzers are great dogs, they love kids and their very protective too, Also, they dont intimidate easy with larger dogs, it's like they have no fear... Only drawback is they have to be groomed every month and half, but they dont shed hair, which is a great since their indoor dogs.... We had a few doggy threads where members shared pics, but nobody put together a picture thread, Since it was your idea, you can start one if you like.
