Most businesses heavily discount products that don't sell while domainers raise prices on domains that no one wants.

"Sale ended. Prices will go back up!"

It reminds me of how most people lose money in the stock market.

"Microsoft shares are sky rocketing.. It's time to buy! Oh no - now it's crashing... Sell! Sell!"

:sigh2:

even though no one has purchased, doesn't mean the name isn't getting offers.

therefore, one can raise pricing to entice the fencewalkers and lowballers who have expressed interest, to purchase before pricing goes higher.

i've received offers on names year after year, and each year i own them, the prices will go up

some get sold the next year, or the year after, or years later down the line.

you also have to consider that some domainers hold names that earn revenue, so even while they are not selling, they are earning.

and pricing will go up on those too

no one makes "offers" on MS stock, they either buy at selling price or don't buy

businesses can't afford to hold inventory that isn't earning any revenue, so they must have deals or discounts to move merchandise.

physical inventory rarely increases in value overtime, unlike domains which can increase in value because of age.

imo...

Your point is valid for quality domains and those earning revenue.

However, a good portion of the names that people do this with are awful-domains-I-would-not-ever-want-to-own.asia.
