Is it just me or are the drops getting crappier and crappier as we go along towards WLS infinity. Seems nothing good drops anymore and when it does you get like 15K bids when people jump all on it. Just look at the level of crap names on this forum that are being sold. It's become almost as annoying as looking through ebay. This time last year was a totally different story. We have truly come a long way in a year! Hooray for those who actually own quality one and two word names.

I usually watch specific keywords and I normally would have many to go after daily. Now I am lucky if I find one a month that is worth going after. I have seen a lot of people re-registering all the previous deleted domains that I already went through myself containing those keywords as well including new variations of three word domains.

It would be nice to have a quality listing of $20-$200 domains as well as $200-$2000 domains that are for sale (besides afternic). But I guess the days of finding quality bargains are over. Great for domain prices though. However, it seems that it won't keep others from trying to ride on the coat tails of everyone else.

Clemonz,

Yes, I agree that the quality of drops has gone way down. There was actually another thread about this a few weeks ago. The caliber of names the are for sale (not just here at DNForum, but everywhere) is quite different than a year ago. It was once considered a faux-pas to put an "e" in front of a com name. Putting an "e" in front of a net or org name was unthinkable. Now, it is commonplace to see e-xxxxxxxxxx.org names for sale everywhere. If you were fortunate enough to see this coming, and you kept your strong one and two word names, I think you are sitting on a goldmine.

I have all but given up on drops. Three years ago, it was not uncommon for me to chase 100 names per day. Now, perhaps two per WEEK, at best, perk my interest.

As the use of the internet expands, demand for one-word names will increase. For that reason (and perhaps this is a reason for other resellers as well), I am not really in a selling mode. Right now I am more sitting back and taking the "wait-and-see" approach with my names.

I believe you will see this trend continue for a number of reasons.

1. Owners recognize that good names have a value. Because, they
are being contacted before the name expires by potential buyers.

2. Owners can sell the names they don't want or need anymore at
places like Afternic and Sedo.

3. The trend of leaving admin/contact names with hosting companies,
that eventually go out of business, has stopped.

4. Registrars are required to be more thorough in maintaining current
contact info plus notifying owners of expiring names.

5. The redemption process has allowed some owners to re-claim
valuable names. Whereas, in the past, the name immediately dropped.

Plus, there are many other reasons.
