I live in Las Vegas near the Strip.
So in Dec.,PubCon Vegas 2007 looks interesting & I'm thinking of trying to crash. I do have an invite to Enom's Dec. 5 party. :)
Then these two I'm definitely crashing: Jan 13-15, Internext Expo
And TRAFFIC, Feb. 18-21
I am hopeful Moniker will get some of my names into the auctions.

I know I should pay to get in these but I'm small potatoes. Strictly an amateur part-timer. No way can I afford these.
If someone has a pass (or an idea), please let me know. Regardless, I'll be at the bar so when I see your badge, I'll say hey.

Thanks for looking.

So another words, you want to take advantage of a paid attendee, just so you can get in for free? Your the very reason why these conventions have bouncers, to kick people like you out!.

Experts grappling with high suicide rate

Nevada has had a high suicide rate for as long as the state has kept statistics on such matters.

As far back as 1929, the first year Nevada registered vital statistics with the federal government, the suicide rate here was more than twice the national average.

While the state has changed dramatically since then, the propensity for Nevadans to kill themselves has remained alarmingly consistent........

Of course these figures are based erroneously upon the NV per capita population and fail to factor in the 40 million tourists annually.

Hey, how about someone giving me your TRAFFIC Badge if you leave a day early?

The security is pretty strict at pubcon. And we had 4 very large bodyguards assigned to us last time in the VIP section of the nightclub... partly to protect our unlimited bottle service, and partly to keep the hookers off the drunken domainers :)

Is this why my Palm's balcony sliding doors were welded shut? Nice, view, nice balcony, but I had no access, weak.

Good observation.... Last summer I stayed in Orlando Florida at a nice high rise hotel and walked out the balcony no problem, but whenever I go to Las Vegas the windows are fastened shut. News reports of people jumping out hotel buildings because they lost everything they had, is the LAST thing the city of Las Vegas wants, It's all about maintaining a good image and building tourism.

I sent a domain suggestion with a $x,xxx, xxx reserve for TRAFFIC West the other day but haven't heard back yet. The submit link is still there although it's past the posted deadline. :)

FYI - The suicide rate in Nevada is nill. But you'll believe what you want to believe.
As mentioned, the figures do not take into account the 40 million tourists. Factor in those numbers and Nevada's suicide rate is among the lowest in the country. This low rate is attributable to the strong family structure and the quality of life in Nevada. I am 100% serious as I've lived here over 25 years. The schools are excellent, there is strong parent involvement in the PTAs and it is a terrific place to raise a family. The "factory zone" (i.e. The Strip) is for the tourists and the locals mostly never go there (only to work).

Unfortunately the CDC does not factor in tourism, This is just an attempt to skew the numbers....This is a very interesting read; It applies to Nevadans and residents of Clark County, which includes Las Vegas.

Higher rates of suicide, substance abuse in Nevada
http://www.scrippsnews.com/node/24920

The analysis revealed:

-- Nevadans have the 12th-highest rate of death among people younger than 65.

-- Nevada's rate of deadly accidental poisoning and exposure to noxious substances, which includes drug overdose, is almost twice the national rate. Clark County has the nation's third-highest rate of fatal drug overdose for counties with more than 1 million people, behind only Bronx County, N.Y., and Cook County, Ill.

-- The state's rate of death from alcoholic liver disease is 1.7 times that of the national rate, and Clark County is ninth among counties with more than 1 million people.

-- Nevada's suicide rate is about twice the national figure, and Clark County's rate is by far the highest among counties with more than 1 million residents.

Are Raider's windows fastened shut and BobDiGiTaL's sliding balcony doors welded shut just rare isolated incidents, or is this a common phenomenon in Vegas? If normal, what is the local understanding as to why this is done then?

Not isolated, it's Las Vegas's approach to suicide prevention. ;)
