If you could create a new TLD (like .com, .net...), which one
comes to your mind?
I have been thinking about .all , .zone, .mall and .porn.

NONE. Theres already plenty of them, we dont need no additional garbage! It will just devaluate the market and create confusion. In my oppinion, we should leave it as it is.

The new STLDs that ICANN seems destinied to approve in 2003 are :-

.health
.travel
.union (hahahhahaa)

The first 2 are almost a certainty. The last, is the dark horse.

None are expected to make a dent on the growing viability of .info and .biz :)

If you want to invent tlds, you can still go to http://www.nameslinger.com and relive your fantasies :D

I don't care what ICANN or SCMUCKANN or any other funny organization will aprove.:)
I am seriously thinking of creating some interesting TLD(s) and not
using any third commercial party.
This is rather cold reality and not any kind of dreaming.
The target is 5% and growing percentage of current internet society, who would have immediate access to sites under such
tlds.
Even if fails, this could be at least fun, so please try to provide some quality responses.
I would especially appreciate some technical related advices, like free DNS number assignements, hosting a (virtual) DNS servers, etc. Thanks.

I agree the above-listed sTlds are most likely to make it next year. I do feel that there's some potential for .health & .travel to nibble into .INFO's usage but then again if we just take one common example for each say diabetes & chicago, .INFO still sounds/feels (IS) much more comprehensive and desirable tld with either. Another question, since these'd be sTLDs who'd get to reg. the prime names such chicago.travel (or Hawaii.travel, or Europe.travel, etc); would industry sponsor's be figthing for these among themselves like dogs over a bone... :D

Finally, I believe the decision to release only a limited number of "sTLDs" would be quite good for the new tlds already out there (.INFO/.BIZ) in giving them much-needed time to establish themselves. These're approved in 2000 and this next round will be (if ICANN sticks to the schedule) after three years. This would give them at least another 2-3 years before ICANN would consider approving any more; that'd take us to say 2006/2007.

Ho, ho, hooo.

Mery Christmas to you too.
And to everyone, regardless of his/her TLD!

My preferred new TLDs would be .fan for fan sites and .sucks for protest sites, but the "proper" use of these would require that names go to somebody other than the trademark owner in question (a fan in the first case and a critic in the last), and there's no way the trademark lobby would ever tolerate that. :(

My money is on .biz!! Reason: .biz stands alone. I've been thinking about this for some time. IF more TLDs do come out, no one will ever be confused as to which is a "business" and which one is not".

My thinking is some dot travel and dot union sites might effect some dot info sites. For instance: www.cancun.travel and www.cancun.info (ouch!)

Those "travel" folks don't f' around when it comes to marketing. It's a billion dollar business. They wrote the book on marketing. Afilias better get a clue and real fast. The more generic sponsored TLDs that come out could chip away at dot info. Even union could hurt info. www.local41.union, or www.local41.info??? (ouch again!!!). The time to brand "info" is right now in my humble opinion.

As far as .health goes, I don't see it affecting dot info too much. www.arthritis.info is better than www.arthritis.health. HOWEVER. www.your.health, is much better than www.your.info.

Viva La .BIZ (translation: No confusion here)

.BIZ was recently stolen by ICANN, in the most blatant
power exibition in Internet history. The organization who supposed to bring some order intentionally created a mess .
I guess the only mistake good guys made was not trademarking
original .biz. Lesson to be learned.
But you never know, maybe they'll strike back and .biz comes
again into the problems.

 .BIZ is a more robust and comprehensive stand-alone name for real businesses than .info and the closest challenge to .COM the internet world has ever experienced to date.

.COM stands for COMMERCIAL

Now, that term is so old economy (understandable, since it was conceptualized 18 years ago),

People say that .COM is the most familiar gTLD on planet earth, and therefore, the type in traffic is awesome.

But as an extension, .COM is starting to see new upstarts suggesting what an old grandpa it actually is. Now that is so .comdescending :)

The internet addressing system is starting to rationalise and mature, with or without ICANN's help.

Internet surfing behavior and perceptions will continue to evolve, and when the tea lady starts advising you to buy .BIZ, you know its waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too late.

Speculators hate .BIZ because its a restricted TLD, and can't by policy be sold like free-for-all .COM.

If you are a developer, not a reseller, you can instantly see the benefits of a stellar high quality generic name you can pluck off the trees in the early days of its launch at reg fee.

Granted, most people can't see beyond their nose. Nor are they willing to take even the slightest risk beyond what is tried and tested and experienced.

Viva La .BIZ! So what if its cheesy to those who don't work in the corporate highways.
