What do you think?

Is this a good name or am I stretching it?

No I don't think you are stretching it at all. Any .US name addressing a well-known geographic area of America would be good. There is a lot to like in the Dakotas. I would do a site devoted to the attractions in the area. You get two states for the price of one. Of course the Dakotas were a great native American tribe too if someone wanted to do a historical site - but I think the commercial value is in the geographic area. It will take a few years for that value to be realized so I would keep it, develop it and promote it.

P.S. You didn't just register that did you? I would hate to think I missed it!

Yes!

I did register it today! I was surprised to see it as all the other extensions were taken. I thought it was great but my picks aren't always DEAD ON!

I asked for an appraisal for BookWriter.com (which I thought was a monster name) yesterday and got $40 right out of the box. It will just take more time for me but I'm glad to see Dakotas.us wasn't a waste of time.

Thanks for the appraisal.

Yes! I did register that today.

Damn I hate that!....er...I mean I'm happy you were able to pick that name up for a reg fee today. :)

(Actually I bet Bidawinner hates you now too)

The funny thing is I recently ran through a list of native American tribes just for fun and did not see Dakotas on it or I would have grabbed it. Oh well - congratulations, very nice name. The value in it lies ahead so don't let it go for peanuts today.

Incidently I liked BookWriter.com. Maybe not huge value but a really cool name for a writer's resource site or vanity purposes. I bet you will end up selling that for enough to make worth your while.

Oh, I didn't know they were mostly old people. In that case the name wouldn't have any value. Everyone knows old people just kind of lay around and take up valuable space. :)

Also, we are only talking about two entire states in the United States, so there couldn't be anything of interest in such a limited area. I don't think anyone cares about that Mount Rushmore thingy and that kind of junk - Sheesh!

Hey... now there's a valuation concept worth considering. The higher the average age of the target audience, the lower the expected remaining useful life and thus lower the value of the name.

For those of you holding on to "adult" names, this is your chance to junk those worthless domains and get some valuable "Kids.US" names. Increase average remaining life expectancy of target audience by a good 10+ years (or 5+ for poorly-supervised kids) :)

Also, I am going to write to my Congressman with a great idea on how to balance the federal budget and eliminate the deficit. Replace Medicare with HospiceCare. After all... that money is just being frittered away on old people.... :)

Speaking of old... anyone old enough to remember the movie "Logan's Run"? If not, how about "Soylent Green"?

Soylent Green also one of my all-time favorites Dome. Surprised to hear such a good movie reference out of you after my Robert DeNiro impersonation from Taxi Driver went over your head in the chat room last night! (Or maybe it was just a REALLY bad impersonation!) :)

I see a lot of movies... particularly SciFi... guess I just have never seen Taxi Driver. Maybe I will rent that this weekend? Actually... I am thinking that my family will go see "8 Mile". I am thinking of incorporating rap into my finance class... seriously. I have been doing an Elvis inpersonation to explain the Capital Asset Pricing Model for years... ("The Risk Goes Up" to the tune of "I'm All Shook Up")... but perhaps time to update.... :D See, now did you guys get *that* kind of value out of your tuition dollars when you went to college???

Can't say that I did! :)

I'm not recommending you rent Taxi Driver. I don't even remember anything about it except that one scene - and Jodie Foster. Stick with the Sci-Fi - lots of cool stuff there (though I don't think there are any set in the Dakotas - the former subject of our thread!

Couple of things. South Dakota, a state where I live has seen a 1000% increase in people moving from in California, New York, and Texas to our state. Reason: Not a bad place to raise your children. The quality of education is superior to most larger states. South Dakota was the first state to "wire" all their schools and make technology a top priority. Even Ipswitch, SD pop 15 which is located in rural eastern South Dakota has access to fiber optic cable. One last thing. The western 1/4 of this state has terrain much like Colorado packed with ski resorts, scenic areas that would make take your breath away, and of course Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Indian Memorial.

Not sure about the future prospects of North Dakota, but South Dakota is the best kept secret in the nation.

Dakotas.us is a very good name at the price you paid. Good catch!
