Dilemma:

I've reached an agreement with a private owner to purchase his .com for $1200

Unfortunately, buydomains owns the .net and .org

Their .org is listed at $888 (which I do not want) and the .net is on sale for $1288.

I don't value .net's whatsoever, but like to lock them up when I purchase a .com --- I've done a little research and my understanding is that bd.com does negotiate with serious buyers.

But how would I go about getting them to budge on the price? I wouldn't mind paying $8-900, but anything more would ruin my budget for upstart and make these purchases pointless for a while. Is it possible I could get them to drop that much?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

The buydomains buy it now price can usually be cut anywhere between 15-30%.

You shouldn't have a problem getting it for $900 if the buy it now price is at $1288...that's reasonable.

Thanks for the response.

Any surefire way of approaching this for sure? Should I inquire and wait for a response, or simply inquire with my offer included?

If you want, i can contact them and i'll find out what the lowest price they can give you. Or you could email the whois and see how much the seller wants. A couple of ways to approach this.

Give them a call or chat live with a rep. This is the most effective way to get a price slash. They can only do immediate price slashes if they own the name.

If you do a whois search an realize that the name is owned by a 3rd party then work directly with the other party and take BD out of the equation. The owner is more likely to go lower since they don't have to pay a commission to BD.

my advice:
buy the .com and then you can do anything else...

.net and .org will be worthless for them, unless it is a very popular generic term
