Just got an email from netsol/verisign. It was a "FINAL NOTICE" to renew a 3 letter name of mine. They're claiming it expired but they're giving me until 8/24 to renew it.

Strange thing, I got the name from SnapNames back in June of this year, and the registrar was Netsol. I even got a "Welcome" Email from Netsol stating that my name would expire on 06/02/03.

So I called them and asked what's up.

They did a little research and said, oops, "we accidentally DELETED it".

So when, I asked, can you get it back for me.

In about 10 days, they said.

10 DAYS!!!! That's after the 8/24 deadline!

Oh, not to worry, they said. We'll get it back for you.

Shucks, I said. I trust you and all that but, just so I can rest easy at night, can you put that in writing and Email it back to me?

Uhhhhhh....can you hold for awhile, they said.

3 minutes later, they're back. Yes, they said. We'll email you right now.

Can you tell me what you'll put in the Email, I asked.

Yes, they said. Here it is:

What about stating it was YOUR fault, I asked.

What about stating that you GUARANTEED you'll get it back for me, I asked.

Uhhhh. That's the best we can do. But have a nice day.

Wait, I said. What about if I renew it and you credit me back the cost? I've got till the 24th, right?

Actually, that's wrong too, they said. It's on-hold status waiting to be put back to the public.

That's all you can do for me, I asked.

Yep, they said. But have a nice day.

Anyway, that's where I am right now. Any suggestions on what I can do to get my name back? A name that netsol admitted they wrongly deleted.

Any ideas?

i'd call their legal department, ASAP. Make it seem like you are going to sue them, if they don't immediately take care of the problem. Probably drop the name of a good lawyer or two. Of course, none of this will probably help. NSI is the domain-market equivalent of the Nazi party.

One should *never* put "Network Solutions" as your preferred registrar when ordering a SnapBack. There's no guarantee that you'll get the registrar of your choice when a name is caught, but I can't see how putting it there is in anyone's interest. NSI has possibly the worst security for domain names.

You're right George, but I already knew that. I never put NSI as the preferred registrar. The way it works is that SnapNames works with about 15 registrars who try to grab the names at the same time.

NSI got lucky in grabbing my name.

I got unlucky in that it was NSI.

In the past, there were a few cases that Verisign accidentally deleted the domains. But usually they would deny all the responsibilities. I am sorry to hear that happens to you...

NSI :( - it's all been said, the worst bar none.

Put another Snap on it asap if you have not done so already.

Forgot to add. The name was snapped up by someone after it was accidentally deleted.

I remember you can find this report at Snapnames. It is a Powerpoint presentation for marketing their name protection service.
