I've heard some people say the sale of Cellphones.com did occur for $4.4 million, BUT should not have been disclosed to the public, while others say this sale NEVER happened.

At a TRAFFIC earlier this year I heard participants continuing the debate, some said the sale happened, while others contended it did not occur.

Does anyone know the real story about Cellphones.com?

Thank you,

Michael

Evidently, some domaining websites assert the sale did occur....

If that Greek kid hand-reg'ed that name for $35, he should be a Greek man by now selling it for $4.4 million. What puzzle me is that if an end user who is willing to pay $4.4 million to buy that domain, howcome this end user doesn't use it for business but instead parking the domain?

WHOIS shows Dimitri Spiliopoulos as the owner, still. And the domain was registered in 1996 - which makes it very feasible it was hand-registered (potentially after a former registration from the no-fee era lapsed).

Because it's mostly resellers selling it to resellers, it sold for $4.4 mill they will now make some off of all the types checking it out parked. I noticed that with many high priced names, just sitting parked so it must be lot of that going on I would think.

Quite an incredible reg by any date and standards.

Potentially more than $4.4 million? There's nearly 4.5 billion cell phones in use worldwide now. Estimates are to be 7 billion by 2010.

WOWSER!
