Just getting on top of yesterday's news, doesn't this mean that the whole hype about IDNs over the past few years just went down the drain?

I mean, what's the point of owning "idn.latin" if you can have "idn.idn"

If people will be typing in a domain in their native language, it seems unreasonable to switch back to latin for the extension.

Modern IDNs >>>> Old ones

I guess that if you already have the .com for example, you will benefit from an alias in the native character set. IDN.IDN will be another way of reaching the same domain.
