Domainer does not have any weekend. Domainer wouldn't even notice there is a weekend if the traffic wouldn't be lower.

So was it a server issue or vBulletin issue? Perhaps you should share with others and be instrumental to assist them in protecting themselves from similar attacks :) If DNF was hacked I am sure the majority of the smaller sites out there with their security can be hacked seeing DNF has the money to pay for the best network admins.

While I'm glad to see it back up the perpetrator got his/her wish and there's no more legal section. Basicly all sins washed away. Even questionable members still remain. If this is the way it works I think my own time here is short lived.

I hope your guess is wrong and we haven't given the hackers that much power to call the shots over which sections they want to see at DNForum. If your right, that sends a message to hackers that DNForum is weak and will cave.

It's a slippery slope because it's like saying "Hey if you don't like any of our sections or what's posted here, just hack us and we'll remove it for you, thank you and please come again."

The Admins are smart enough to realize this so I bet the legal section will be back.

I have been trying to establish communication with Adam. Spoke with a moderator on the phone already.

I will say it in as few words as possible:

Do not trust anyone at this point. Not even me! If the database was compromised, the passwords need to be reset. Changing one's password at this point might work for the most part, however for those that have not logged in since the downtime there is a strong chance their accounts were compromised. Established members might have their account compromised, Exclusive member accounts even. PM's is not a safe way of communicating! The hacker used his ample social engineering skills, nothing else, in order to gain access. He already attempted to reset account passwords of mine. I have notified the managers of my assets and will file legal action as well. I urge everybody to be in red alert. This is not the time to party. It's the time to assess the damage and fortify our assets.

Adam, I am sure that you did what you had to do to regain control of the forum. At this point others are at stake as well. This person needs to be stopped.

At this point, DNForum should RESET all passwords and FORCE everybody to create new ones. This will take care of most but not 100% of the problem. I am not aware of the particulars but I suspect that if that person gained access to the db he is already dissecting it for sources of information. Certain members exchange domain account information in PM's! This is NOT safe.

I agree with Radistar on this one.
You might say that the passwords are encrypted anyway, but that encryption is useless for someone with some CPU power and some spare time.

Change your passwords everywhere, you should do it once a year anyway. You do not need to remember it - Firefox will. You just need to remember general password for Firefox.

excellent post, I would also urge members who visited the cracked server, if you run a windows operating system, to review your PC security, as there were rumors of spyware being downloaded from the site.
