I run a site for a friend of mine and I have the .com, .org, .net, and .info. For this, we'll leave the .net and .info out of the discussion.

Initially, the .com was owned by someone else so I ran his site though the .org. After a while, the .com dropped and I got it and forwarded the .com to the .org.

OK?

I've switched to a new host. I also decided to use the .com as the site and forward the .org to the .com so:

I set the DNS of the .com to point to he new host, turn off forwarding, and put the site with the new host.

Then, I cleared out the DNS for the .org and set that to forward to the .com

Sounds simple?

Now, whenever I try to go to the site, I get a redirect loop (I see in the bottom bounce between the .com and the .org).

I figured it would clear itself out as global DNS, hosts and registrars got caught up. It didn't and it's been a week.

So, I have tried to set the .org back to the main site (turn off FWD and point the DNS to the new host and the reverse for the .com) but I'm still stuck with a redirect loop.

Any suggestions? I've even flushed and renewed my DNS but it's not just my PC, it's any PC.

Host them both, use an .htaccess file or server setting to forward everything where you want it.

The reverse started to work so I'm going to leave it as it is. Maybe I'll just leave it like this since we've been promoting the .org

How long did you wait for propogation to complete? Sounds like maybe you didn't wait long enough if you were getting a loop?

Good to hear, but it sure took a long time for propagation IMO. A week you said, right?
Had to be something stuck somewhere. Glad it's resolving itself, (lol) .

Yeah, something must have been suck but what, I don't know. The .com was always with my new registrar since I transferred it form Enom and the forwarding was working. I'm not sure what was stuck, probably the forwarding from the .com to the .org.

It's working and that's the good news :)
