Well Taiwan is the main bastion of Traditional Chinese, so many names in this script will be worth significantly less if such changes are implemented. Having said that many will not as the block may potentially give you the rights to the Simplified Version anyway. Most people take Simplified as a default preference so the impact will not be that great.

I was actually surprised by the news (that UN will start using Simplified Chinese) when the People's Republic of China actually gained the seat way back in 1971!

With mainland China's economic might (and that of political and military), Traditional Chinese is loosing its ground day by day, esp. when another stronghold (Hong Kong) is falling (at least gradually).

The battle between the two has been more political than practical, but then most educated adults (esp. those with higher degrees in the humanities) know Simplified Chinese anyway.

Simplified is the future regarding this industry.
And personally I agree with mainland gov't on this policy: To use the Simplified while need to understand when reading the Traditional.
