I just got quoted $900 for 6-months of SEO? Do you think that is a reasonable price to pay?

To give you an idea on the field the search terms are in..

Main term OVT results:

90k (OVT Average Top Bid Price - 0.40c)
60k (OVT Average Top Bid Price - 0.55c)

Cheers!

its cheap.. equals out to $150.00 a month, so yes its a good price. I know some who charge 500+ a month, so you're getting a bargain.. But only if that person is capable.

keep in mind that it's gonna take 3-6 months before you see any changes in your listings, I would count on at least 6 months...so effectively you are paying $900 upfront before seeing results of the work...

For that kind of keywords is cheap.
Would you expect to have someone work for you for free? Good luck.

Remember that if he has a ctr of 2% and manage to get into the top 10 he'll likely get thousands monthly visitors (let's assume 40k) which translates in good monthly earnings (40000*0.02*0.4=$320/month).

Only thing to do is to make sure the SEO expert is actually capable by seeing results of his previous work.

if you got "human friendly" content, and keywords to match.........then you don't need no expert!

Yes, myself, and you don't need any luck when you have skill :)

Back to the point, I was only trying to help him see what he's up against in black and white. There is a ton of hype in SEO, many scams, and many unscrupulous types...frankly there are only two companies that I would ever recommmend for SEO but better than that I would suggest that people just learn to do it for themselves.

Now, this is different. I'm also one of the "I'll do it my way" people..
And I agree with you when you say that there is a lot of bad people in this business (this is why I suggested him to ask for previous projects results).

However, if he doesn't have a clue on SEO and want traffic fast to its website he need to hire an expert. More important, he needs to check each and every little thing the expert does, to be able to do that himself next time ;)
