Do you use direct navigation when you are looking for something, or do you go through a search engine?

It struck me that we, above any other group of people, should always use direct navigation whenever possible. What's the point of strengthening the search engines when we could be strengthening our own industry?

This is not to be confused with any form of click fraud, because it definately is not; you're looking for something anyway, so it's a genuine enquiry - just don't do it on your own names!

More often than not, if I come across a parked landing page, I can still find what I'm looking for, sometimes straight away.

direct navigation is mostly used when you know or think you know, the exact url of a website that has the product or service you want

however, i see many of my co-workers who type their search in their "web browsers" search bar, rather than using the address bar

then they click from the list of links that the SE produces

the culture of "address bar searchers" is fading fast to those who use wb's to search

especially with all the Se companies urging you to search thru their service.

google this

yahoo that

ask this

bing....

I prefer to use search because I want to look through a number of results to find what I want. There is a reason for Google's dominance :)

We all want people to type in our domains, but then go and use Google ourselves; doesn't make sense.

Also, I've found some decent names to register by doing this.

Search -

1) It sends me to what I want and need
2) Chances are I won't end up at a parked page and feed the wallet of a greedy domainer. :)

I never use it, maybe when I am checking the status of a domain, but that's about it. I think direct navigation is mainly used by novice internet users.

So far no-one else has said they use direct-nav when looking for a product or service - that's akin to the CEO of Chrysler driving a Ford!

Doesn't say much for the future of the domain industry when y'all want to further Google, Yahoo, Bing etc...

Not really. I buy a domain name for the SEO benefits it provides primarily. But educated internet users such as you'll find here know better, and it would be surprising if anyone here actually used direct navigation, unles they knew where they were going. Most traffic you get from type in names are primarily uneducated people in internet usage to begin with.

So basically, what you're saying is, that anyone who parks names is just waiting for an uneducated mug who'd be better off going to Google? What kind of a business model is that?
