Does BuyDomains Actively Market Names?

My apologies in advance if this topic has already been discussed...

Does anyone know if BuyDomains actively markets their names (cold-calling, etc), or do they just take the passive approach with type-ins directing to their site and pop-ups?

Miles, in NetSol whois searches BD has various scripts when you search for one of its names, such as:

<a href=http://buydomains.com>BUY THIS DOMAIN</a>

I think NetSol must have disabled the pop-ups, but this was one method BD had of driving traffic to its site. Once there and you sign up for their regular 'Domain News' e-mail sendout, you then receive a list of 'Recently Sold Premium Names' plus 'Featured Domains For Sale'.

Sorry I can't help re whether they do cold-calling etc, but when you've got a huge collection of excellent domain names, I would imagine in many cases propective buyers will track down the owners.

To estimate the value of a domain, consider what the value of one customer is, including its lifetime residual and all the referrals the customer will provide. Multiply this number by the number of customers that might sign up as a result of finding you because of your new premium URL.

For example, if each customer is worth $1,000 dollars over its lifetime, and your new site attracted 50 new customers over the life of your company, then the domain could be valued at $50,000 to your business. If your premium URL attracted 10,000 new customers and they were valued at only $5 each over their lifetime then you would come up with the same $50,000 valuation. Regardless of how many additional customers this name attracts to your company, it should hold its resale value and in all likelihood grow more valuable over time.

Buydomains, you know that is untrue. If everyone who has bought a domain from buydomains decided they no longer wanted it and tried to sell most wouldn't get back half of what they paid.

I think that BD uses some strong-arm/misleading tactics in selling its domains.

It claims on its site that its domains are in "incredibly high demand" and that prices are increasing on a "weekly" basis. Of course, the demand for domains is the lowest its ever been (in recent times). Not too many high end sales, to my knowledge. So if anything, the prices should be dropping on a weekly basis.

do you really find this unusual or wrong?

 

to be fair, with the volume of sales bd do compared to the volume of sales most other people do - their proprietary data is a bigger sample than that garnered from ebay, afternic etc.
