Seriously i might not have a drinking or gambling problem but domains i have.......i have purchased many domains and thought wtf have i bought that for, even for good money.

I've been sucked into auctions buying domains much higher than i intended, bought domains just because i liked the look of them, basically not sticking to any rules if there are any,the worst thing i keep buying domains thinking "great for development" but never having the time to do any of them.So now i got 1500 domains with renewal fees of $7k a year :-0 and at least $100k out of pocket..........

Anybody else have or have had the same addiction ?

Addicted, but not that addicted. Invest wisely.
Thats over a period of say 4 years but what i need to do is concentrate on quality rather than quantity in future.......thats means three letter .com's and quality dictionary domains from now one.

Buying domains is kinda like buying baseball cards or collecting stamps. Except each one is one of a kind. :)

I have a lot of domains I'd like to develop. Probably will never get around to it. But hey, its the thought that counts.

I am definitely an addict. However, 3 years ago I sat down and trimmed my portfolio from 600 to 200 now and made some mental guidelines such as what industry I would stick and keyword quality.

The addiction really kicks in when I feel I have that "hunch" and go ape on a certain keyword or when there's a new extension release that I've felt good about like .MX

You're in the same boat as I am. I caught a lot of drops and then, 6 months later think, what was I drinking?? Nothing very high (I've had to be extremely selective with non-hand reg purchases) but I'm sure the day will come.

I wish it was the thought that counts - then I would be able to work on my own and not work for someone else.

My domains are piling up and I want to develop them all but I can never seem to get focused enough to do it.

Yea every day when I get off work, I head home with plans of developing my sites. When I get home, I see my motorcycle sitting there. So I decide. Motorcycle or Domains. Motorcycle always wins. :D

I've bought a bunch of domains I intended to develop but the time never seems to be there to actually sit down and to it.

As long as your ppc, affiliate and ad revenue, and domain sales cover your renewal fees in a given year, you're ok. Ofcourse you want to profit, but if you lose money year to year on domains, then what is the point? Trim out domains that don't make money and realistically have low chance of reselling.

It can be a real addiction, can't it?

Most of us learn pretty fast what we should do, or not do...but, yet, still find we can act against better judgment. That's addiction. I was like that in my early days in this game.

Maybe you gotta go cold turkey, Bulldog?.....Maybe, force yourself NOT to buy ANY domain, for awhile - regardless of how tempted you are....Or, even, take a break from domains altogether for awhile......+ use that time to ruthlessly trim your portfolio, using objective criteria......ie break the dependency...

Then return to trading, refreshed....but, with a much cooler head - doing only what you've learned is the smart way to proceed.

Domaining is a business like any other. Sadly, like any business, a cavalier approach will likely eventually send you broke...:)

I'm an addict, so i can relate to some of you here. In spent over 3k by registering at godaddy in the first 2 weeks. Now I'm less than 2 month, I spent around 8k already. Yike.

i paid close to $400 just to join this forum. That's happened in less than a month of going into domain field. I thought domaining is exciting, and I like to learn as much as I can, so i think it's worth it. I've been spending time reading on the subject here and other internet sites. What I have learned, i realize that most of the domain i registered are worthless, a lost of money. Some disappointment, but still happy because few of the domains i registered, I thought are good ones.

I have better judgement now, I think. Don't buy too much, too carelessly. But then, I get hyped up when I hear of the new .MX. These past few days, I rushed to register more than 2k worth of .MX domains. I'm yet to register more, so more money to spend. That's how addictive and uncontrollable I am.

Maybe someone here can help me stop spending money on domains. It's so easy to get addicted.

I say to myself, after a few more domains, I'll quit buy. And these next few I'm going to buy have to be really good ones. And this is it!
