The Denver Business Journal has just featured a half page article about domain names on page 5. Anybody living in Colorado should be able to get a copy, hopefully it may also be available on the website version tomorrow (Monday).

I'd like to read that one. Will look for it. On a related note, found another Denver Business Journal article on the return of internet based businesses.

Article from 7/21/06

Our local paper (I am in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada) had an article today about people making a living off of adsense, they listed a couple of their sites and some said they made about $30,000 - $40,000 a year, another $100,000 a year...

Domaining is getting some serious pulicity lately... They also had an article about Google paying out $90 Million due to click fraud...

Hi xnx,

Yes the .St's are my domains, but the response so far has been fantastic. Going for the end-user market is the way to go.

Pity you did not like the article, although it must be said it was definately writen by the reporter for the business people and investors in Denver, not for domainers.

I have to agree with XNX here. The article is very amateur and poorly written in my opinion.

Also in this business .. a statement like this won't get you very far: "This isn't just about who has the most to bid," he said. "We want to know who you are and what you intend to do with the name."

Either the domain is for sale, or it is not. What the potential buyer plans to do with the domain is really none of the sellers business. Offcourse you can ask, but in some cases, it will hurt more than it will help.

Perhaps an owner has a moral and social responsibility as well as being after making money!

Although it would be impossible to identify down the market chain what someone is going to do with a domain, a responsibility to 'try' to ensure the buyers intent is only common sense, especially ones that people directly associate with. This is no different than a business person selling a factory where people are employed, most owners would make inquiries as to whether the prospective owner intends to keep the workforce on!

I do not and will not apologise for beleaving a seller has a moral duty.

Sorry .. i have to laugh here ... but selling a domain name cannot be compared to selling a factory where hundreds, thousands, or millions of people's jobs are at stake.

I think maybe the true intent of asking what the buyer's "purpose" is for buying the domain is to bump up the price accordingly?

Then you misunderstand totally! I will turn down offers from those whose 'probable use' is not what I consider to be authentic use for the domain for which its name denotes in the public mind.

This policy will undoubedly produce a lower selling price than could have otherwise been achieved. But I have a social conscience! :)

So you are saying that if someone sends you an offer of $200,000 today for GoFi.sh ... and says we are going to use this site for a site you would consider "unethical" ... you would turn down the offer correct?

A simple categorical answer is YES!

You mean you wouldn't?

i think you would be the only person in the world to turn down money on a domain like that. No matter what the buyer was going to use it for. This is my opinion offcourse.

""Malik noted the registry of the .eu domain received about 346,218 applications within the first day it was offered""

what i can deduce is that the author of this articles doesnt know much about domains.

alright, then you are a "Maria Theresa" and would not take 200K, but

what you are gonna do if your buyer initially lies to you, or changes his mind after the sale > ? Are you gonna go after him ?

No one than the appropriate laws should judge about what is ethical/acceptable and legal etc. in the Internet - let's keep it this way !

Am I selling domain names or pets ? Just wonder.......

It is not a case that I am a Saint, I am not, but I am responsible as far as I can be. As a man surely that should be expected of me?

And yes I like every other person have biases, but I would not willingly sell eWall.St or a State domain name to someone whom I thought their intention was to turn it into an extremist political site/porn site/casino site, etc..
