I constantly read about people missing their renewal payments, having it renewed too early for their liking, too late for their liking, not knowing of the grace period length and losing their domain, etc etc, so...

@Epik

How about adding a feature into accounts which allow domain owners to manually set the date of renewal (either a specific annual date, or number of days from expiry) for each domain? AFAIK each registrar has their own fixed renewal date, eg: on day of expiry, 7 days before, 30 days before, etc, and cannot be changed, none of them offer any choice.

While I would think that anywhere from 30 days before expiry to 7 days after expiry would suffice, it may even be worthwhile to go even more days before, whatever the customer chooses. IMO this would eliminate a lot of problems or negative feedback for registrars by letting customers have full control and hence responsibility for renewals.

Hi

if, you're actually reading that, then for some of them, it's basically the result of mismanagement.

sure, on occasion one might let a name expire or renew one they didn't intend to, but those with quality portfolios tend to keep closer eye... than some who get into frenzy buying with discount codes at various registrars.

also, the more registrars one uses, then each variable difference in their policies must be addressed.
however, on other hand, one might not want to keep all their "eggs" in a single basket.

if you're confident in the names you own, then long term renewals in advance, after registration/transfer... might be prudent.
rather than choosing which names each year to keep or renew.

such a feature you speak of, might be good if one could afford to renew their entire list on a specific date.
though the more names you have, the higher the expense at that time, would be.

imo...

Yes, I agree to an extent. But different registrars do different and sometimes strange things... like renewing all domains 30 days before expiration, or 14 days, 7 days, on expiry date... then add that they can often change their policy and automatic renewal dates, and many domain investors need to keep track of them with multiple registrars.

A set-it-and-forget-it renewal date of YOUR OWN choosing, not the registrar's default setting, would be a great option.
