Hi. I own 500 domains. I'm looking for a domain developer to help me develop a few favorites. I'm more of a domain collector/flipper if anything. So developing strategies is totally new to me. I would be willing to share a percentage of revenue, sales and eventual end-sales price with the right developer. I would prefer someone with experience, but a knowledgeable newbie would be fine as well. I believe this form of payment would be more profitable than a one-time payment as the developer would make much more in the long run. It would also motivate said individual in the designing process as more revenue means more pay. PM me with inquiries, questions or advice. Thanks in advance.

Good luck because I have yet to see a good site developer work on percentage basis rather than per site fee. It's not an easy task to develop a site to top standards to even break even on percentage rate. Pay the man upfront and you'll have 100% for you for life.

Most domains, even good ones, aren't going to make you a lot of money. You would be best to get a basic HTML book and learn at least the basics. Then look at scripts that may accomplish what you want to do, WordPress, etc. Dumb little 'mini-sites' are unlikely to make you much money either you need to have something useful and much better yet, unique (not easy!). All of us here to varying degrees know how top buy and sell domains and already have tons of undeveloped ones! I too doubt that your proposal will have many takers but I wish you luck!

What are some of the better domains you want to develop?

Absolute nonsense. Pay the man upfront and they will run with your money! Any serious developer will want to work on a rev share basis because their time and expertise is worth more then any upfront amount you can offer.

It doesn't have to be the full amount, just an upfront fee and the rest when done. I hate to be that developer on rev, only to find yourself locked out after all the hard work is done with no pay. I guess it all depends who is who.

I am the most honest person you'll ever meet. So honest, that I'm willing to admit that most liars and thieves would probably start out with that very same line.

I have been taken advantage of in the past and it sucks, but I understand what your saying RustyK. It does depend on who is who. I knew that posting this thread was a long-shot, but if I could just establish one friendship/partnership from it, than it's worth it. I believe paying a person upfront is just one option and quite frankly, it's probably the most common option. But think about, developing a trusted online business partner where the developer get's paid, monthly, on the work they do, forever. And to top it all off, if the domain ever becomes so successful and sells, you even get a percentage of the sales price.

It makes sense to me. I just need someone with a little bit of drive, who is trustworthy and knowledgeable. I know that nobody in here knows me from Adam, but I'm 100% trustworthy (my friends would say 150%) and I'm motivated enough to tap into the billions of dollars floating around online, with another motivated, trustworthy, person.

I know there's one out there. He or she has probably already read this and maybe is considering it. Who knows? Maybe not.

It's worth it to me to ask.

I might be interested. It all depends on the domain names and whether they are interesting enough for me.

Regarding the "developing a trusted online business partner"... unless you draft out a legal document that spells out everything, it is a risky proposition for the developer because he/she is putting all faith into your "credible" character.

How about go half way on this.... pay 1/2 up front so at least the developer feels he/she is being compensated for their work but then is also taking a risk to see where this may lead. I think that is fair.

As a developer and domainer I face the schizophrenic deity approach that you describe. The fact is, as a developer I prefer to layout a project and define its beginning and end, and part of being creative is driven by the "reward". The scope of any project thus becomes irrelevant; at the end of a given day I want to be paid for my "sweat" and effort. You might be better off deciding which projects you'd like to build and concentrate on full development of a handful, thus retaining 100% of ownership and future revenue.

It will depend on your domain name. If premium quality, then there may be people who like to do business partnership. If average domains xxx to x,xxx range domains, I doubt serious developers would like to develop them because it might cost them xx,xxx to see results.

If you have a limited skill set, there is a ceiling to how much you can realistically make if you do it all yourself to keep all of the future revenue. Greed never gets you anywhere in life.

While it would be good life experience to get your hands dirty, I think inevitably you should adopt a revenue share model for most of the domains you seriously want to develop. Stick to what you are good at, which is domaining. I'm not saying its the only solution, but its easily one of the better arrangements since its a win-win for both parties. The developer is hugely motivated to take the site to the next level, since they get a percentage of the revenue, and there is less risk taken on by the domainer.

You misunderstood what I said. Instead of wanting to develop 500 domains on a profit share basis, pick 5 and have these developed (by a professional and paying for their services.) Thus, you keep 100% of ownership afterwards. The secret is to find those domains that are worthy of development. Don't expect everything on a platter ;)

Ahh right I completely agree with you. And yeah, very few domainers are going to have 500 domains worthwhile developing, and those that do likely own media companies that takes care of development :)

Pure revenue share offers are tough to accept as a developer.

It's a question of priorities and finances in some cases, but for most it would be an anathema.

Try thinking of it as an offer to pay a auto mechanic 'a % when you sell the car' or an architect 'a % when you sell the house' and you'll understand why this is not feasible.
