Hi,
As I am based in the U.K. I have been using HeartIntenet, and to be fair their costs have been reasonable and the service quite good.
I recently reg'd a .mobi with Godaddy [they are much cheaper for this] and they offered a "privacy" service so that my home address didn't appear on "whois"
I then asked HeartInternet if they could offer similar service[for.com etc] and they replied it was "illegal" under domain name law to do this.
Further more as ownership couldn't be proved then there was a serious risk of loosing the name.
They both can't be right,So who is????
Thanks.:yo:

There are different approaches to privacy. Some of these schemes aren't very clever, but claiming they are "illegal" doesn't seem very clever either.

Maybe you'll find some answers here:

Mail forwarding wasn't illegal last time I checked, neither was the usage of companies to hold property, rights, or domains; even the use of trustees or licensing/leaseback schemes should be fully legal if executed properly.

It all depends on your needs, but if you merely want to control and use a domain, you needn't be the registrant of record personally.
