on the other side of that coin, there is nothing wrong with making a profit...esp when domains that cost $6/yr to reg are being sold for tens of thousands and sometimes millions every day ;)

I think versign makes quite enough money selling their other line of products such as the shitty stupid lockup certificate, err I mean SSL.

There is if its illegal and monopolistic in nature. Only reason Verislime takes that size of a profit is because ICANN won't seriously consider or even allow competitve bids to run the COM registry (ie, Tucows offer was $2.00 per COM).

That's less than the ICANN fee.

Yeah, and we get absolutely nothing (0) in exchange for that 25 cent TAX. ICANNt doesn't even recognize Domainers/Consumers as worthy of representation.

There should be a revolution.

NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION! Sound familiar?

yeah and the shoes im wearing really cost about $1-5 to make, but they charged me 70 pounds at the shop! We dont complain about the outrageous additional fees producers/distributors of products put on their products, i dont see why this should suddenly become an issue.

If you don't like the pricing you can shop elsewhere... You cannot shop elsewhere for domains as there is no competition (among registries).

Not if i want this brand i can't! this brand of shoe costs about the same in every shop unless its on closing down or summer sale!

Its the same with domains, .com is a brand perhaps comparable to a big product mainstream brand, if your poor and can't afford it try a cheaper one, like .info or a free one!

That fact is in life you get what you paid for, if it means a more stable service from verisign for paying extra fees they add on registration or my shoes lasting me perhaps 6 month longer and looking better than the cheaper brands, so be it.

I'm happy domains cost what they do.

Have you noticed what's left to register these days, even with prices at $6-8 a domain?

Imagine what kind of unholy trash would be left if domains were 14 cents a piece?
