Interesting....no doubt best to stay with .com and .net for Arabic.
These tld's work best anyway for maximum reach all countries and internet users in the region.

Onkosh.com and Onkosh.mobi is a newly developed and released search engine that is pretty incredible.

A user can enter native arabic characters/script or even English words to get results. This is a tremendous model for auto interpreting searches. I would imagine that this may have an impact on IDN in the long run.

Could this become a model for future search engines? Or browsers that auto detect and translate?

I have noticed an increase in traffic in my Arabic domains and domains related to Arabic terms, etc since the release of Onkosh.com and .mobi.

You also bring up a good point regarding the .sy and some ccTLD's. Some are pretty risky and can be seized at the drop of a pin due to non-compliance with the registrars.

Supposedly .eu is for Euro nations, .us is for US citizens, .ca for Canadiens etc. Should any or all ccTLD's decide to search and verify WHOIS, millions of domains I am sure would be seized and the cries of outrage would be met with TOO BAD!
