I just recieved two letters by mail, only addressed to "DAN"

They are from the Domain Registry Of America, they are to inform me of the names zky.org and ziq.org are about to expire, and that i should transfer them to their site droa.com.

I sold these names close to a month ago if not more. I mean, spam at in my email box is all fine and dandy, but to mail me, and expect me to transfer domain names to these people is ridiculous.

heres a few quotes...

"You must renew your domain to retain exclusive rights to it on the web, and now is the time to transfer and renew your name from your current registrar to the Domain Registry Of America"

"This notice is not a bill, it is rather an easy means of payment should you decide to switch your domain name registration to DROA."

WOW, I hope this mail campaign cost them a lot of money.

any one else get this?

Yup got about 25-50 of those over the course of 2 years.

I just treat them as just mail and trash them each time. Fairly annoying but at least I know they're losing money.

I get atleast 5 letters a week. To my residence, po box, and place of business. I've even emailed them to take me off their mailing list, but they have yet to..it's some other domain registrar too not just DROA..can't remember their name now though..

oh well..it's their time and money wasted..and trees..it's a good thing I recycle..

I called the number and spoke to someone after getting at least 50-100 over the past year +
I gave the guy my name and mailing address(s) and may have mentioned something along the lines of me being a registrar...(Im not) and I did not want to receive andything else from their company.
He assured me I would not receive anything from them in the future and I haven't.

Try it! It seems to work.

Over the weekend, a friend of mine told me he has a couple domains with DROA.

He is a very busy investment lawyer and probably got the mailing and renewed his
domains thru them.

Apparently, the mailings work.

Boy, was he upset when I told him the history of this company.

here is a solution:

stuff them in their postage paid envolope, and mail it back to them, and they have to pay for it again! And it will help the post office too.

I got this last week, and not the first one I've received, nor the last one I expect to recycle...

"Domain Registry of Canada - Domain Name Expiration Notice

As a courtesy (you have to be suspicious when any letter starts with this) to domain name holders, we are sending you this notification of the domain name registration that is due to expire in the next few months. When you switch today to the Domain Registry of Canada, you can take advantage of our best savings.

You must renew your domain name to retain exculsive rights to it on the Web, and now is the time to transfer and renew your domain name from the current Registrar to the Domain Registry of Canada."

blah blah blah - morons!

Their "best savings" =
1 year @ $40.00 Cdn ($33.65US) - 2 yr = $70 - 5 yr = $160!!

Best savings me arse - if the dumb morons would have looked @ the Registrar I currently hold the Domain/s with, they would see their "best savings" is BS compared to the $8.75 US it cost me to renew right now - are they that dumb not to think we do not get renewal E-Mails from our Host Registrars detailing their prices - as if we wouldn't notice the rip-off difference in their proposed rate!

Again - morons!

In the end, all this tells me 1 of 2 things:

Either they are true morons and do not know squat about effective Marketing and/or Professional Domain Registration;
-or-
It works enough with enough people to make it profitable for them - and if so - kudos.

Whatever the case may be - for me - it's a waist of their money, as I LOL and watch them keep sending 'recycliables' - each letter further adding to the screams of:

"We, DROC, are MORONS!!" ...and life goes on.

*Note: DROC was smart enough not to include a paid return envelope - or yes, they would be getting an envelope full!
