I have agreed to sell a domain which I was registered about 30 days ago (dropped domain).

But the buyer insists to transfer the domain to other registrar and it is not successful because it is not 60 days old yet.

What should I do? The sale is in progress via Escrow.com. I am stuck now for this domain.

Ask the buyer to open an account at your current registrar...

There is no way out of this as far as I know.

I think the 60 day thing is pretty set in stone.

I agree with Carter.

Have them open an account and they still have total control.

I have had this happen to me several times as the buyer. I am actually about 36 days waiting on one right now that I purchased a few nights ago.

The other party must realize that it is not an issue of deception or deceiving them.

And they can still take 100% possession and control of the name.

I have asked her. But she refused to do so.

Well I don't see other solutions...or she open an account at your current registrar (for a fast push) or she have to wait 60 days.

Can you call the new registrar and ask if they can do something to "bypass" the 60 days rule.

Thanks, Carter. I think 60 days rule was set by ICann? May be registrars will be afraid to go against this for one domain as Icann might take action if they do so.

these are things which should be discussed and settled before the transaction starts.

if you can't convince them to get an account at the same registrar, create one for them (with their whois info if possible) and push the name there after receiving payment and just give them login info of the account..

you can also send them the "60 day waiting period documentation" from that registrar to validate your claim.

For a newly registered domain, the 60 day rule is set in stone, double locked and the key is placed inside the mouth of a 12ft white shark :D

Now, the intra-registrar 60 day transfer lock (e.g. from enom to godaddy) can be circumvented if you can pull some corporate strings.

I'm afraid you have two options: 1. Convince the buyer this is not your fault but it's the rules of the trade or 2. Cancel the transaction.

I agree with you 100% on this.

But the biggest issue I have found is when selling to an end user (I am assuming that is what this sale is) the enduser is a regular joe/jane and has no idea what were talking about.

All my major sales (5K and above) have been to end users.

They just want the name.

They don't want any excuses, just the name.

education is the key to all successful sales

"educate yourself and the buyer, and neither will walk in the dark."

the buyer will appreciate the education and this can often set the stage for repeat buys from that person, or a referral from them to another potential.

Oh, I wholeheartedly agree.

That is why these little "surprises" sprung on them after the fact can really make things go sour.

The same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago. The buyer insisted to transfer the name to Networksolutions as she has an account there.

I picked up the phone, explained the situation and worked with her to create a new account from Fablulous . She was very happy and we closed the deal in 30 minutes (2 days for Escrow).

Thanks you all for your suggestions.

If I ask her to wait until 60 days over, will escrow also wait? They would like the transaction to be completed asap.

Some months ago I was in the same problem with an enduser.
I asked him to pay me 50% of the deal, I redirect the domain for 49 days to an enduser website and after the 60 days passed he pay me the rest and I proceed with the transfer.

You can do the same.

I had an interesting reverse version of this problem. I had an offer through NetSol's 'buy' service. The domain was, as this one is, about 30 days old at Go Daddy. NetSol had been paid, I believe, when they discovered that the domain couldn't be transferred to them immediately. They summarily canceled the deal!! The guy then came to me via Sedo and bought the domain that way. He did want it at NetSol and will be moving it there later for reasons that escape me.

The 60 day rule is inescapable even for NetSol. It is actually a good idea; one of the few that ICANN has had as best as I can tell. I got some stolen domains back that likely would have been long gone without it! You might want to mention that this rule may actually help your client in the future.
