Well DN'ers im in kind of a rut. I think of this "domain business" as like the stock market. You have people who buy stocks for the long haul hoping to cash in on a grand idea and be rich in money when it sells for thousands.

Then you have the day traders who buy and sell in a minutes notice looking for quick cash and not looking at the long haul but the "now haul"

When it comes to domains Im caught in the middle. Sometimes I look at my portfolio and say "ok I will hold these until the right offer comes around OR wait to get a higher price" then the very next day I say "alright well maybe I should just sell what I have and be happy with the pocket change"

How do you guys handle this and what is your position...Long haul OR day trader?

I see domains more as business then stocks. most of my names give me ppc revenue , constant income. Most of the names i hold are revenue names and i dont want to sell my constant monthy revenue which gives me good enough money to buy other names. I have been able to purchase 120 lll .info's from my ppc revenue. so I belive in using my ppc money to buy more domains.

If i see a good buy and i am low on cash i would sell something which i have for the other domain which i think will give me better returns.

When i started i used to do quick sale on overture names . register and sell on daily basis . Now i have not sold anything for last 3 months i guess.

Sometimes thats a hard decision. I use to short myself, and sell my names whenever I needed cash... But the best thing to do is find a way to make a steady income to support your purchases, and still have extra money for everyday expenses. Income can be found though PPC revenue, side jobs on the forum, or even a part time job outside of this business... If its a good domain name, you want to hang onto it as long as you possibly can.

Good Luck,
Andrew Shaw

I am definately long haul, I wait for enduser prices, but in order to do this I continue to slowly increase my portfolio with money makers in parking, doesnt matter to me if its 10 cents a day or 1 or 2 dollars a day. of coarse i rarely sell domains with this attitude. But as long as my bottom line keeps going up i am happy

Names that don't have great value now will likely never have great value in the future. Names that are currently worth a decent amount are the ones that will likely be worth a lot more in the future.

The names that you can get XX or low XXX for today, are not the ones that are going got make you rich. An extremely small percentage of those speculative names will turn into a winner.

If you go with names that are already winners, and spend a few thousand or more on a good name, then you can hold and have a reasonable chance at solid appreciation. If you have to think about whether to renew it or not, then it isn't a good candidate for big money down the road.
