I'm developing a script that checks the status for a list of domains. When its fully finished, it will have a link off of the main website at FREEWHO. Please try it out and tell me what you think.

DOMAIN STATUS CHECKER
http://www.freewho.com/domainchecker.php

The "expiration" and "updated" date is there, as well as any current status flags. It currently does not estimate redemption time, or estimate deletion, but these things can be figured pretty easily in your head. Regardless, I'll be adding those next, as well as a "sortby" function.

It lists a lot of information for each domain name, so any feedback on what's useful would be great. I'm thinking I'll let a user pick and choose with check boxes. It ignores all "blank" lines, and strips any spaces and tab characters out of the input.

It currently supports .COM, .NET, .ORG, .INFO, and .BIZ.
I will be completing its extention support with .US in the next week. I think its the only script of its type that supports .BIZ and .INFO results. I've limited it to 20 names at a time.

well I put in 1 name and it took about 15 seconds, pretty slow I think. Probably a little tweaking will bring the speed up.

Thanks, JH3. Maybe lots of testers on it right now. Works pretty quickly on my local machine. I just mentioned this on two boards. Even with 20 names max, it probably won't take much to slow things down. Please try again at a different time of the day.

Also, I just improved the robustness of the input handling. As long as you have a distinct valid and "supported" domain name on each line, it will take it. Basically, if you go to the auction page (here on dnforum.com) and select and copy part of the list (make sure there aren't .US's in there, not *yet* anyway), paste it in the textbox and you can get returns on it (even with the extra HTML text junk in there).

Also are you planning on making the script available to the general DNF public for sale :)

Yes. It's still a work in progress, but currently plans are to include it as part of a much bigger package that's taking forever to finish, but it won't be pricey. :)

I'm migrating a bunch of websites over to another web server/nameservers right now, so pasting in a bunch of website names, and seeing all the current name servers at a glance is really handy for me.

JH3, the results now appear (optionally) in realtime. Sometimes these whois servers take a while to respond and holds all the other records up. This way each record now shows as it is read.

If anyone gets any specific errors or criticisms, you can post them here, or you can send a message here:

Hi Nexus
Looks good and work fast for me.
1 suggestion, make the link to the registrar go directly to the whois page of the registrar. Saves 1 more click.

Just a thought.
Cheers

Thanks for the suggestion, Dingo. Might be too complicated unfortunately. I can probably do one better and hyperlink it to whois results for that entry at FREEWHO though. Alright... DONE. Check it out.

Sponk, you may have a connection to the Internet that doesn't allow you to get results "realtime". I'm thinking anything through a "proxy" (like AOL) might gum up the results for you. Try going to our websupport page and sending me a message ( http://websupport.directnexus.com ). That form is "smart" will let me know automatically what kind of system/connection/browser you are on. Thanks.

Nexcorp, I use Watch My Domains Pro, and it does a great job too. Nothing beats the accessibility of having it on the web sometimes though! ;)

I've been tweeking it during the day. I color-coded any "PENDINGDELETE" and "REDEMPTIONPERIOD" status' just now. I finished testing it with deleteddomains.com, namewinner (watch list), and snapnames.com result lists. They copy/paste and process nicely for an up-to-the-minute status check! It also works with the dnforum.com and domainstate auction lists (will reject the list however, if any of the members is not a COM/NET/ORG/BIZ/INFO).

Oh, sorry, sponk! Look up the "flush()" function in PHP. It pushes all buffered output on the server to the client immediately. The thing to watch for is that all your content at that time is "complete". Don't worry about closing the <html> or <body> tags though. Basically, you shouldn't try to "flush" half of a table, because the browser won't know what to do until your finished with said table anyway. Hope that helps.

Thanks, ActNow. I will prob. change that limit sometime. Not sure when during this testing period.

I've gone ahead and implemented .US and also .CO.UK as well. If someone knows any SUSPENDED, CANCELLED, or DETAGGED .CO.UK's and can test the results, I'd appreciate it. I can't find many records off-hand to test with. "SUSPENDED" is color-coded like "REDEMPTION" and "CANCELLED" is color-coded like "PENDINGDELETE". If that doesn't make sense, let me know. I've have nil experience with this extension.

Thanks,

If any one is interested, here's a list I found of .co.uk and many are detagged (some have already been retagged). Some here and there are even "not found", which might mean you can reg them.

Best Regards,
