Domain Strategy for Local Searches

Hi Guys, I need some advice. Say you have keywords which are specific to a country outside of the USA and the .com is not regged, is it worthwhile do you think to register if it does get a considerable number of searches?

Do you think many international visitors would goto the .com as opposed to their local extension?

If it is a country with high tourism from english people, then it's probably worth regging, because they are searching for the terms in english and using most likely .com - the average tourist wouldn't even know what the foreign country domain extension is.
