can somebody lead me in the right direction looking for a good company that provides a domain tasting service? I heard moniker does it, but they charge a fee to return the name. And what i heard is that its around 25 cent per return. Now that seems costly in my eyes, so does anybody know of a company that does it free? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Excellent results so far.. Excellent company. Highly recommended. When you cross the 500.00 in one year mark they automatically give you bulk pricing too.. plus I've had not one issue in 2 years there.

excellent... thanks for the help... but still kinda think there has to be another company out there that does this with no issues... any other ideas?

i know godaddy hates it. and Moniker wants a return fee which is rediculous when the law says we can do it legally. By no means am i low life for wanting to do this, but i just feel i would like to try it and use the system and law until IF it gets fixed. As long as im doing something legal in my eyes I'm ok with it.

PremiumDrops has a system in place for free tasting, but there is currently a budget in place that prevents most from using it. It's run by a DNforum member, and he is "in the process of teaming up with a registrar to offer each of our users the ability to taste up to 1,000 domains, 100% free."

You an try dotcomGenie.

http://tasting.dotcomgenie.com

You can start with as little as $50 but you have to pay using ggole checkout or bank transfer.

Mindgenies, is that your registrar?

If so,
The $.03 tasting fee is nice, but is it really charged even if you keep the name? At $9.99 per .com, it seems a little much to charge the tasting fee, even if it's only a few cents.

With Moniker, if I taste 100 names and keep 50, I am charged 347.50
for the 50 purchased names and 12.50 for tasting the other 50.

With dotcomgenie, if I do the same thing, I am charged $499.50 and $3.00 for the tasting.

Now, I understand a 50% retention rate is pretty high, and I know there's a point where the lower tasting fee would trump the lower reg fee, but I would suggest at least considering this to let people test more names:

Set the amount being deleted from someone's balance for registering a name to your cost. If they keep the name, THEN charge them the $9.99.

Moniker allows it. Be sure to ask for DNf special pricing. =)

Pool.com does offer Catch and Release with prices as low as $0.10 for tasting and they use Rebel.com for registrations... .com's are $8.25 plus $0.20 ICANN fee.

Sorry to post in such an old thread, but does Pool.com still offer catch and release? I cannot find it on their web site.

Who would you all recommend at this point?

Is the practice dead now? I know ICANN was talking about killing it.

There is a fee charged for domain deletions now, making it not worth to do large scale tasting.

Just to give you an idea, daily registrations (tasting linked) went from about 2 million per day to about 150k per day.

I guess the ones still tasting must have a great data source because there are a few tasting (DomainCannon, Oversee/NameKing) in large volumes

ex: http://www.tastereports.com/?stat_date=2008-12-12

Good luck,
Luc
